SONOSAX SX-PR is the smallest and most lightweight stereo mixer available today. All that is needed for powering are 3 C-cell alkaline batteries of 1.5V or NiCad accumulators.

An ingenious feature of this modular system is its adaptability to right or left-handed users. The master module with the modulometer may be installed on either side of the mixer.

Like all other SONOSAX manufactures instruments, SX-PR has been built using only professional components (conductive plastic potentiometers, switches and connectors with gold-plated contacts, etc.) to ensure unparalleled levels of quality, performance and reliability. In addition, the switches and potentiometers are air-tight and thus dust protected.

All these features, together with very demanding SONOSAX standards, have resulted in this mixer that meets the needs of News reporting (ENG/EFP) where reliability, size and weight make all the difference whether recording indoors or outdoors.

And, to top it all, thanks to the updated electronic characteristics of modern techniques, this tiny little mixer is ALL SET FOR DIGITAL RECORDING!

Connected with an R-DAT recorder this equipment enables stereo sound recording of an extremely high quality.

4 tracks digital tape recorder

The post STELLADAT II appeared first on Sonosax.

• 2 and 4 tracks on tape
• 44,1 / 48 / 88,2 / 96kHz sampling rate
• True 4 channels audio mixer
• 2 to 3 hours autonomy with Lithium Ion battery
• Advanced modes (Chase, Remote) and functions (Jog, Shuttle, etc.)
• SMPTE and Aaton Time Code

STELLADAT II is the unique 2 and 4 tracks DAT portable tape recorder.
While other manufacturers are making their DAT machines cheaper rather than better, SONOSAX has been working to achieve manufacturing efficiencies while providing a better product with more features. STELLADAT II maintains of course the standard of quality and dependability that customers have learned to expect from Swiss manufacturers.

STELLADAT II is extremely advanced in its features and design. It has four mic/line inputs, all with high quality mic preamplifiers, input gain control, limiters, low pass filters, pan pots and output level controls. These four inputs can be routed to two or four tracks, with or without pan pot, depending on the applications (see the audio routing table). STELLADAT II has a true 4 channels input mixer. Included is a tone generator and a slate microphone.

STELLADAT II records and plays at 44.1kHz and 48kHz (on option at 96kHz) as well as ±0,1 % to meet the requirements of NTSC video.

The left side panel of STELLADAT II has four mic/line inputs and the analog four line outputs as well as the monitoring section with MS controls and headphone connector.

The right side panel has two digital AES/EBU XLR in- and outputs as well as optical in and out connectors for SPDIF digital signals. This panel also contains the XLR and Lemo Time Code in and out connectors.

STELLADAT II has an LCD screen allowing a great range of information to be displayed. In particular, signal levels can be controlled to a very high degree of precision due to the high resolution image. An LCD display, because of its transflective nature is visible in high ambient light. Back lighting is provided for low light situations.

The Tape/Direct, User Prog and Display keys are located to the right of the main level potentiometers, so all controls are grouped. The Tape Transport buttons are high quality positive detent switches with a special molded rubber cover.

On the top panel, the tape transport is located on the right of the four-input mixer. The menu selection is handled with a simple joystick. For studio use, the tape transport keys are replicated on the top of the recorder or can be assigned with many useful functions.

The battery housing is located on the back panel of STELLADAT II. On its side resides a small control loudspeaker.

While many Time Code DAT machines have become notorious for frequency instability, (Time Code drift of 20 ppm is typical), STELLADAT II is as stable as its Swiss analog predecessors. (Time Code drift typically less than 2 ppm) and is offered with an optional High Stability (oven stabilized) crystal which will provide frequency stability < 0.2 ppm.

Unique circuit design allows STELLADAT II to achieve unheard of power efficiency in a DAT recorder. STELLADAT II uses only 10 to 15 watts, depending on its configuration. The power saving software allows you to power off the analog inputs one by one, the optical in- and outputs and the analog outputs. Power requirements in “stand by” is very low allowing many hours of typical production from a single NP-1 battery. To switch from stationary recording to “over the shoulder” documentary style simply requires the recordist to unplug the external power, plug in a mic, pick up the recorder and run …

STELLADAT II has been designed and manufactured to meet the highest standards of reliability to operate under very rugged conditions. If service should be required its modular design allows any module to be exchanged with one single 2 mm hex wrench.

Modular 12 to 48 channels mixer

The post SX-T appeared first on Sonosax.

Each SX-T input is equipped with an absolutely noiseless mute switch which may be controlled through a computer, video editor, or another external system. As an option, a VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) and a compressor may be installed on each input thus allowing, in addition to mute switching, individual level control for each input. The compressor is of a very particular type and does not have the “pumping” effect so often found with this kind of circuit. The user is therefore assured at all times, particularly when working with digital systems, that there will be no saturation that will bring catastrophic effects.

Due to its versatility, the SONOSAX SX-T is the ideal choice for numerous applications, such as:

• fixed and mobile recording studio and broadcast
• video, television and cinema production and post production
• digital or analog sound recording, in 2 or multi-track
• very high quality sound systems for concert halls, theaters, etc.

Each SONOSAX SX-T mixing console is composed of standard modules combined and assembled according to the needs and desires of the user. In this way, it is adapted as closely as possible to the required specifications and, at the same time, remains expandable.

Standard modules may be slightly modified and it is recommended that each user specify as clearly as possible what the applications is so as to enable SONOSAX to respond precisely to individual requirements.

As with all other SONOSAX products, the SX-T is built without any compromise on quality, using only the best components available. Each stage of its circuits has been extensively studied to give the highest quality performance.

The result of the research and development is an ergonomic mixer with extraordinary characteristics. In addition, since the SONOSAX SX-T already offers all the essential elements for working with sound within its very compact volume, it is no longer necessary to annex other “small boxes” or accessories which are not only expensive but also bulky, nor to add more cables which take up space and sometimes create confusion due to the number of wires connecting all the equipment.

The SONOSAX SX-T has been created taking into consideration the possibility of working with digital sound recording, as well as synchronization and automation with other existing or future equipment.

High quality professional stereo Mic/Line amplifier
• Ideal complement for DAT, DV, miniDV recorders and Betacam
• 48 volts Mic Power, battery operated

The most critical part of any sound recording system is the microphone preamplifier.

Considerable effort was therefore invested in this element with the development of the SONOSAX SX-S mixer. This laid down the foundation for this product’s success and the same philosophy has since been implemented in the other SONOSAX products.

The advent of the DAT, MINIDISC, DV, miniDV and BETACAM formats has created a need for mic preamplifiers of equally high standards. As most of these applications do not demand any on site mixing, SONOSAX now offers its well-proved technology in a versatile dual channel package. The SONOSAX SX-M2 operates with two 9volt batteries, or with NiCd accumulators.
